  • Over the last decade I have worked hard to involve undergraduate students in research, both in my reaching and as research assistants in CHERI. One goal has been to give students the opportunity to go on for PhD study and I think I have been very successful here. One of my undergraduate students, Christopher Smith, received a PhD in economics from MIT. Another, an African American undergraduate Marquise McGraw, is now a 4nd year PhD student at Berkeley with a 5 year package in economics. A third, Peter Costa, is now a 3rd year PhD student studying the economics of education at Columbia Teachers College.A fourth, Kate Duch, is a 3nd year PhD student at Duke in public policy, again with a multiyear financial aid package. Another student, Divya Kirti, is now a first year Harvard PhD student.A sixth, Micah Rothbart has been accepted into several PhD programs in public policy and education and begin at NYU Education in the fall of 2011, while a seventh, Julian Hsu began PhD study in economics at the University of Michigan also in the fall of 2011.
