Susanne Whitaker's extensive experience and specialization can help clinicians, researchers, students, and animal health practitioners find needed information and optimize the biomedical and veterinary literature and other resources.
Ms. Whitaker is interested in all aspects of veterinary medical librarianship, especially database searching, information services, and literature of the field. On the national level, she compiles a guide to searching PubMed for practicing veterinarians, established an online International Directory of Veterinary Medical Libraries, and maintains a bibliography about evidence-based veterinary medicine. She also compiled profiles for recognizing Notable Veterinary Medical Librarians who have retired from the profession. In conjunction with the veterinary literature, she is interested in critical appraisal and evidence-based veterinary medicine. Susanne also has long-standing involvement with the historial developments of veterinary medicine, primarily in America, and contributes to the American Veterinary Medical History Society, currently as secretary/treasurer.
