Jonathan Culler is Class of 1916 Professor of English and Comparative Literature and a former chair of Comparative Literature at Cornell and a former President of the American Comparative Literature Association. A graduate of Harvard and Oxford University, Professor Culler is the author of numerous books on French literature and literary theory, including Flaubert: The Uses of Uncertainty, Structuralist Poetics, Roland Barthes, Ferdinand de Saussure, On Deconstruction, Literary Theory: A Very Short Introduction, and The Literary in Theory
