abstract
In 2005, we pilot-tested eight modules of a distance-learning course on science communication. In 2006, we reported on that project to an international meeting in Seoul, South Korea, on public communication of science and technology. Also in 2006, we delivered the course to students at the University of Zagreb (Croatia) and Institute for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste (Italy).
Although the importance of science communication is increasingly recognized both in the United States and worldwide, resources for teaching science communication are limited.
response
We developed videotaped lectures and reading materials (including case studies based in different parts of the world) to use for teaching science communication.
impact assessment
More than 100 scientists, science students, and science communicators worldwide have now participated in our global seminar. In addition, 50 science communication teachers and researchers received the materials at an international meeting in South Korea -- many of them are implementing some component of the materials in their own courses worldwide.
