Grant Farred holds a joint appointment in Africana Studies and English. He has published widely in the fields of postcolonial theory, cultural studies, the formation of intellectuals, literary theory as well as sport and contemporary politics. His most recent books include What's My Name? Black Vernacular Intellectuals
(2003), Phantom Calls: Race and the Globalization of the NBA
(2006) and Long Distance Love: A Passion for Football
(2008). Since 2002, he has been the General Editor of the Duke University-based journal The South Atlantic Quarterly
. He currently serves as Associate Chair in English and Director of Graduate Studies in Africana.
