Welcome, and thank you for your interest in Environmental Toxicology at Cornell University. The Institute for Comparative and Environmental Toxicology (ICET) is a center for toxicological research, education, and outreach. It combines faculty from across the university and is included in many of Cornell's environment initiatives. We are housed in the Department of Food Science, 116 Stocking Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853. ICET has 40 faculty members spanning academic departments in five Cornell colleges. Specific disciplinary interests of the faculty range from basic studies in environmental toxicology, including biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, food science, nutrition, genetics, environmental chemistry, epidemiology, and veterinary medicine, to societal aspects such as risk communication, public perceptions, and risk management. The organizational structure of ICET supports the interdisciplinary nature of the field and a National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS-USEPA) Training Grant. ICET holds a seminar series during the academic year inviting local, regional and national experts to present their research in varied areas of toxicology and providing our students a forum to present their research progress and results. There are also a variety of activities organized by our student organization, Association of Comparative and Environmental Toxicology StudentsAssociation of Comparative and Environmental Toxicology Students (ACETS). ICET contributes to the public knowledge of relative toxicological risk and is committed to providing a scientifically sound university "safe haven" for the discussion of contentious safety issues among the public, government and private sectors.
