The Department of Economics at Cornell offers a unique combination of theoretical and analytical rigor, and concern for "real world" problems. An unusually broad range of courses gives students an understanding of the way economies operate and an insight into public issues.
Unlike at most universities, more than half of the Ph.D. program faculty is drawn from outside the Department of Economics, and includes professors from the College of Industrial and Labor Relations, the Johnson Graduate School of Management, the College of Human Ecology and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
