Positions
An animal science professor at Cornell University, Galton is serves as leader of the Cornell Dairy Fellows Program which is a dairy industry oriented undergraduate program. The program was formed in 1984 to provide undergraduates with an education that consists of a science and business curriculum, university exchange programs including studying abroad, internships in production agriculture, agricultural business and policy, industry conferences and seminars and case studies, including real farm analysis. The program is funded by the dairy industry. Along with teaching, Galton serves as Director of PRO-DAIRY, a statewide dairy industry extension program that addresses the educational and applied industry research needs of the dairy industry in New York. He works with several dairy industry organizations to improve the competitiveness and profitability of the State`s dairy industry. His research interest is focused on the area of dairy herd management. Current interest is dealing with the interaction of milking machine function and udder health.

Teaching
teaching overview
- The Cornell Dairy Fellows Program is designed for students who are interested in dairy industry related careers. Approximately 140 students participate in the Fellows Program each year. The program integrates extensive course work addressing disciplines in the dairy industry with particular interest on dairy cattle and business, industry and farm visits, in-depth farm analysis, seminars with industry leaders, industry conferences, college exchange prorgrams and summer internships in dairy related careers. These programs allow students to apply their knowledge, skills and mind-set in multiple real-life situations. Students are challenged to prepare and position themselves for successful careers including leadership roles in their communities and the agricultural industry.

outreach overview
- The Cornell PRO-DAIRY Program is designed to help farm families and other agricultural professionals to realize their values and to strive to achieve their professional and personal values. From dairy industry input, educational programs are developed and delivered that will (1) allow the New York dairy industry to remain economically viable in the future and (2) provide greater technical specialization with management education orientation.
