Positions

Ajay K. Garg is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. He received a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from University of Hyderabad, India in 1996. In Professor Ray Wu`s laboratory, he was a Rockefeller Foundation postdoctoral fellow (1996-99), and was later appointed as Research Associate II (1999-03). Dr. Garg is an active member of the rice research community and his research interests focus on improving abiotic stress tolerance and increasing grain yield in rice to meet the challenges of global food security.

Research Areas research areas

research overview

  • Plant biotechnology, with a focus on improving abiotic stress tolerance in cereal crop plants. Use of an integrated molecular, genetic, and physiological approach to identify and characterize the mechanisms underlying stress tolerance in plants. Identification and testing of novel candidate gene(s) involved in plant metabolism or stress tolerance by using transgenic and functional genomic tools, with the long-term goal of improving grain yield under field conditions.
