Successfully educating undergraduate students about the plant sciences provides students with a valuable tool for making decisions about careers, the environment, and related social issues.

The plant sciences are an important subject for undergraduate study in a land-grant institution. Students majoring in applied areas of the plant sciences benefit from a basic knowledge of plant biology. Those concentrating their studies in other areas of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) are better able to make decisions on various social issues with a better knowledge of how plant science relates to other topics.
