issue being addressed
I was invited to assist the Ministry of Education in Eritrea as it sought to revise its social science curriculum to meet the needs of a changing society in a perid of accelerating globalization. The project is vital for Eritrea`s future and will shape the content of social studies education in Eritrea for the forseeable future.
response
Following several intensive workshops on questions of what kind of social science education would be most appropriate, I have been conducting research and preparing a draft manual which will be submitted to the Ministry of Education in the summer of 2007. This will be followed by workshops to discuss the reference manual and the revisions that might need to be made.
impact assessment
The project will have a considerable impact on the ability of Eritrea`s educators to adapt the national curriculum to better meet the social and economic challenges the country will face in the coming decades. It is part and parcel of a major push to expand the quality of education in Eritrea and is viewed by the government as the cornerstone of its development strategy.
