The Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS) at Cornell University was established in 1974 through a union of the Graduate School of Nutrition, an autonomous Graduate School at Cornell University, and the Department of Food and Nutrition in the College of Human Ecology. It is the largest academic unit in the United States devoted to human nutrition. It is also one of the most diversified, with expertise in molecular and human nutrition, nutrition education, nutritional qualities of food, international nutrition, and food policy.
The Division of Nutritional Sciences is affiliated with and a unit of both the College of Human Ecology and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. It is a "Division" instead of a department because it is part of two colleges.
The academic staff of the Division of Nutritional Sciences includes nearly seventy lecturers, researchers, extension educators, and professorial faculty. The primary faculty lines come from the College of Human Ecology and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Members of the academic staff teach in and administer Cornell's undergraduate program in human nutrition. They also teach and advise graduate students and do research. Other staff members work with Cornell Cooperative Extension programs in food and nutrition and the New York State Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program.
