Mills, Edward Lewis

Professor
Dr. Edward L. Mills is currently Director of the Cornell Biological Field Station and professor in the Department of Natural Resources, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell University. He is also is a member of the United States Section of the Council of Great Lakes Managers, and is currently a member of Governor Spitzer’s New York Task Force on invasive species. His research interests include areas of limnology, freshwater food webs, ecology of large lakes including the Great Lakes, and biological impacts of aquatic invasive species. He and his colleagues have published nearly 150 peer-reviewed articles on a wide range of topics including predator-prey interactions, exotic species invasions, and food web interactions in freshwater lakes. Mills was presented in 2005 the Christie/Loftus award by the Great Lakes Fishery Commission for outstanding leadership, for strengthening the ecosystem approach to science and fisheries management, and for many innovative contributions to Great Lakes Research.

research and scholarship focus

Dr. Edward Mills is an aquatic ecologist whose research focus centers on applied ecology. His research interests include biological impacts of aquatic invasive species, ecology of large lakes including the Great Lakes, benthification of freshwater lakes, using zooplankton as biological indicators in lake ecosystems, assessing the lower food web of freshwater lakes, and long-term ecological changes in New York State’s largest inland lake-Oneida Lake.
