Seaman, Abby J.
Vegetable IPM Extension Area Educator
My program focuses on supporting and encouraging the adoption of IPM practices by vegetable farmers, and developing and demonstrating new practices as a need arises or new information becomes available. I accomplish this through a combination of applied research, demonstration projects, educational programs, and networking in collaboration with vegetable extension colleagues throughout western and central NY. During the past several years I have emphasized working with organic growers to understand the systems they have developed on their farms that contribute to pest suppression. I have also targeted educational and applied research programs to the needs of organic vegetable producers. This emphasis will provide valuable information to colleagues in NY and the northeast to help them work effectively with organic farmers. I have continued to track and address the IPM needs of conventional growers, and regularly participate in educational programs and applied research projects.
